Mackora’s letterforms are defined by a dramatic interplay between sweeping curved strokes and precise vertical structure — a tension that gives the typeface its unique visual energy. The most immediately striking quality is the scale and fluidity of the curved elements: arches and bowls that expand to near-maximum width before resolving into fine, tapered terminals, creating an almost architectural sense of weight distribution across each glyph. The M, with its wide-spreading legs and deeply curved arches, and the A, with its sweeping crossbar descending into a dramatic curve, are particularly expressive examples of this design philosophy — letters that read as much as abstract forms as they do as linguistic characters.
The serif treatment is idiosyncratic and carefully considered: fine, flat serifs applied with deliberate selectivity, appearing where they reinforce structural clarity and withheld where the letterform’s own curves provide sufficient resolution. This selective application gives Mackora a semi-serif quality — more structured than a pure sans, more fluid than a conventional serif — that places it in a typographic category of its own.
